Chicken with Wry Neck treatment question

I treated my chicken for wry neck using selenium/vitamin E. Gave a pea size amount twice a day for a few weeks. The chicken is finally looking better. My question to put in my chicken bible is how long to still give the medicine after then how do I stop? Do i lower it down? Anything would be so helpful. I also got the chicken vitamin and selenium food.

I've also struggled with this question. The standard advice is to continue treating her for 2 weeks after symptoms have resolved. My girl never resolved, so we eventually switched to a whole foods version of her treatment with hulled sunflower seeds and nutritional yeast. It's not as potent, but it's safer for me to give longterm while still feeling like I'm doing something.

Did you do the medication and when you stoppped it happened again? Or did you start wth your suggestion and continue with that?

Glad to hear she's improving.

If you are using Vitamin E/Selenium Gel, then you may want to switch up to just giving 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4tablet B-Complex along with a small amount of egg for the uptake of E.

I'm not sure a pea size dose will get you to 400UI and likely she's getting too much Selenium.

General rule when treating the Symptom called Wry Neck is to continue treatment for a couple of weeks once the bird has recovered then taper off over another week or so.

Can you post photos of him?

It's possible he may be suffering from injury or it may be Wry Neck which is a neurological Symptom - some common causes are trauma, disease and nutritional deficiencies.

You can try Vitamin therapy to see if he improves.

Go to your Walmart, CVS, etc. and buy a bottle of Vitamin E (400IU) and B-Complex. Give him 1 vitamin E pill and 1/4 tablet B-Complex daily for a couple of weeks. Offer him a treat of egg or tuna to help with the uptake of E.

I would not use Goat Vitamin E and Selenium.
You would have to give 4ml to get 400IU Vitamin E and that would put you at 46.4mcg of Selnium which is way too high of a dose. Max Selenium dose is 25mcg for poultry, but it can be toxic in large quantities. Vitamin B1 is also a support vitamin for neurological issues and the goat vitamin does not contain that, so you would need to buy vitamins anyway.

No, I’m not I’m giving the selenium/vitamin e and outlet boost and she is so much better

Thank you l. I have a good that have vitamin e in it and selenium also I was going to lower it down and see if she continues to help.
