Hello everyone!

I have a lot of reading and catching up to do as I am a complete and utter chicken noob.
I guess you could say that when it comes to poultry... I'm a real yoke....
Ok, I'm done.

So that being said... I do bring some value to the table.
I am a Woodsmith and a Blacksmith, so hopefully I can help with anything in that regard.

I look forward to spending some time in here, hopefully absorbing the information I need.

My Goal:

I would like to get to the point that we could slaughter approximately 16 Chickens per month.
(Also, we consume on average a dozen and a half eggs per week, so the ability to produce 8 dozen monthly).

The biggest limitation that we have is space, so the chickens would have to be coup housed.
'Free range chickens would be the goal, but as that isn't really a possibility given the yard we have, I was thinking about the possibility of feeding live crickets and worms?

Anywho, lots of study to do, I look forward to any suggestions and help that can be given!!

I'm not thin shelled, so fire away... .. gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet... ... ok, I'm out of egg jokes.

See you in the forums!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! If you want to do a search there are threads on BYC about people raising Mealworms and Black Soldier Fly larva, Redworms in compost piles etc for their chickens. Are you going to try to breed and raise your own meat birds and egg layers, or get a new batch of meat chicks every month?
