Hello. We have four chickens. We got them as babies and have had them for about a year. They used to eat scratch and pellets. They free range in the garden and currently have a massive patch of just soil to play in all day. They get a few meal worms a day. Recently they have stopped touching the scratch and pellets, not sure if they are getting enough from free ranging?

Are they molting? Mine have started molting, and they appear to eat less-and-less of their commercial feed every day. They do, however, have access to a large backyard, so yours and mine may be filling up on what nature provides.

Quote: When I say scratch, I actually mean layers.

Are they getting a layer and a pellet?
If so, what is the pellet you are feeding?

Just so you know, scratch is a mixture of grains and corn used as a treat. Layer feed is not scratch. Layer feed is a commercial chicken feed made with extra calcium to help laying hens lay their eggs. Scratch is something completely different.
