My hen was attacked by a hawk yesterday suffered some injuries to her tail area and her foot and back. Some abrasions and a puncture nothing too major luckily. However, she hasn't opened her eyes since yesterday. She doesn't seem to have any injuries around her eyes and at first we thought it was just shock but as of this morning, she still has her eyes closed and seems very stressed. Would appreciate some thoughts on what might be going on. Thank you.

Welcome to the site. I’m so sorry to hear about the attack. How have you been treating the shock? Shock can last for a few days, but she could have internal injuries we don’t know about, too.

Treatment for shock would be to keep in a warm, dark area and get some electrolytes with a bit of sugar water mixed in into her. Something like room temp Gatorade or pedialyte works great, but you can easily make your own, too. Hold the mixture up to her beak and gently dip it in to get her interested.

How do her injuries look? Are they infected by chance? Can you post pics of her and the injuries?
