Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your chicken. It would be good to start a new thread of your own in the emergency thread. Do that here by filling in the blanks and hit post:My chicken is going through something similar. On Monday, a hawk attacked her and I was able to scare it away from her. She survived and only had one tiny puncture underneath her beak. The next morning, she had one eye closed and I brought her inside to isolate her in a warmer shelter. She’s been very lethargic for the past 2 days; she’s interested in the food presented to her, but pecks at it once and goes back to falling asleep. We’ve been blending her food with water into a paste; we put a little into her beak and let her swallow. Whenever we offer a bit of water to her beak, she will drink a little independently; we have been putting electrolytes in her water.
The hazy part on her pupil is partly from the reflection of the sun. Her pupil is a bit hazy and we think she has limited vision out of that eye. We let the chickens out of the run so they could graze on the weeds growing under our oak tree and we sat with them the whole time. She kept her eye open for that, but she seems to keep it closed when she’s just sitting around. She is eating and drinking and acting like herself. She is beautiful. Is the hazy part on her pupil reflection from the sun/camera? Does she react to movement on that side?
Looks like she is on the mend. I would continue the ointment until she is no longer favoring the eye.
Thanks for the update!
