Chicken won't walk

And normal appetite?

Yes normal appetite if I can get it in front of him or he flops himself over to it. Does mareks cause full paralysis of the legs. Because he can move them if he so chooses to. He doesn't like me picking him up and he can get them kicking and moving just no balance to stand or walk on them. One leg also tucks underneath him and the other stays out rigid and if I try to bend them the one will bend and the other won't at the knee? Joint and I don't want to force it.

Unfortunately none of the vets in my area treat birds more than a cut or that type injury and that's mostly basic first aid type stuff.

I had a serama hen that also lost ability to walk lately. I brought her inside, and put her in a large laundry basket so that she could walk around if she was able. I offered normal food mixed with water, electrolytes, and normal water as well. After a couple days I brought her outside while I let the others free range so she could see her friends. She always seemed to gain a little strength after getting some outside air and social time. I began trying to help her walk, by holding her up and letting her legs tough the ground gently, almost like helping a baby learn to walk. I gave her some dried meal worms as time went on, and would coax her around her enclosure with them. She is now almost fully healed, and goes out to the coop during the day. I bring her in at night since she still has trouble flying. Hopefully this is helpful. Good luck to your little boy! :hugs

Thank you for the help I will try that. Yes he is swallowing his food. Is crop recipe, will it work with oregano powder? I already have some of that. It's that dura stat with oregano.

Oregano oil is purchased at a health food store. It is highly concentrated by an extraction process, then diluted in olive oil. It should not be confused with Essential Oil, which is even more concentrated. It too can be used, however, you must dilute just two (2) drops in 2 tablespoons of Olive oil, then shake vigorously in a small bottle, to blend. Oregano oil is a powerful herb, most people only know it's use as a flavoring for Italian food. The dried herb doesn't have enough potency to be used as an effective medicine. But you can try it.

There have been cases of chickens that have survived Marek's disease. But they are carriers for life. As stated, it can only be diagnosed accurately after death, by a necropsy.

And, there is something to be said for good supportive care, and a soft caring voice.

Do the best you can for him, stormrobin. :hugs

God bless.

Here are some pictures of birds with Marek's
