Chicken yard hawk defense

I read last week about using bailing string across my chicken yard to deter hawks. Seemed like an easy, good idea. I have my (their) coop and run attached by a passage door to a open yard surrounded by 100 ft of Electric poultry fencing. This has been in place for 3 year with no loses. I have part of an old run with a couple of poles with CDs in the middle of their yard. They like the structure. They go in it, on it and it provides a little sun protection. Now I’ve run the indestructible bailing string back and forth across the yard. Easy to do. No expense and I think, hope it will ward off the hawks.

To protect your yard from hawks you could also put a fake owl statue in the middle of your yard

How deep did you put your 4x4's into the ground? Did you fill the holes with concrete?

The holes are filled with concrete and are a few feet deep

The netting I used is a durable aviary netting with inch wide holes

The setup shown here is what people investing a lot more money for more effective protection use, especially when protecting birds smaller than 2 lbs from Coopers Hawks. Birds bigger that 6 lbs are a lot more resistant to hawks.

Ever meet Elly? Hawks can navigate in tight spaces. Bird netting is the best way to protect your chickens. Here's Elly:
