What we've done with our runs...used dog kennels (typically purchased from big box stores like Lowes), covered the tops with 3/4" pipe and hardware cloth. The first run we got "fancy" and did an arched roof:

But the others have had "flat" roofs using the same PVC pipe and hardware cloth (much quicker to put on). The kennels are six feet in height anyway so enough headroom for humans:
One could use these type of kennels (they could be set up as either 10x10 or 5x15 runs) and place something like an igloo dog house inside if keeping only a few chickens.
