I don't know how else to describe the sound. I had a predator attack yesterday and my favorite hen, my BO, was killed. All the others had wounds as well but survived. Ever since sunrise this morning, my SLW has been yelling what sounds similar to her egg song but its so much louder and contains caw like sounds, too. She only stops when I enter the coop. I've checked to see if she's ok and her wounds are superficial - lots of feathers missing and a few scratches but nothing deep. The rest of my hens are either in or under the nest boxes.

:hugs
May I ask what killed the others?

Have you checked the coop?
She may be alerting.

Or she may be calling for the missing ones.
We're not sure what killed her. We saw a big cat stalking my most seriously wounded but surviving hen at twilight. May be a bobcat or young cougar. It looked to be about 45-50 lbs. I'm not sure what the original predator was, though. Whatever it was tore into all of them. It snapped my BO's neck. My mutt chased it off. We thought it got all the hens originally because there were feathers and blood everywhere.

Oh gosh. What a terrible experience for all of you. Again, I am so sorry.

Every night for the past week, my SLW yells out the front of the coop. It doesn't matter if we are in the yard or not or if the dogs are in the yard or not. She was always the one to call everyone into the brooder at night when they were chicks. I think she's calling for our dead chicken.☹

Oh how heartbreaking . I am sorry for the loss of your girl. And I hope this chicken eventually finds some comfort in the remaining flock.
