We're glad to have you. Roosters often start breeding hens a few days to a week before the hen starts laying.

Depends on her age, health, whether she is molting, ect...Once she starts laying, the roo needs to mate with her for 2 weeks before the eggs are fertile. If you attempt to incubate before two weeks, they may not be fertile.
