Hi! I was gone all day yesterday from sun up to sun down. I had someone come over to collect eggs and check on the chickens during the day. I came out this morning to find the door to my chickens house was shut and a lot of poop piled under a roost outside. All of my chickens are alive which is great but one of my hens is being lethargic. I threw some scratch out and she ate some and then drank some water but went right back to standing still. Could she be cold shocked or something? It didn’t go below freezing last night.

The person who collected eggs yesterday said that she was acting a little strange. Could she be egg-bound possibly? Maybe she ate something bad? I was outside with them on Friday and she was acting normal. Any ideas?

I found wet food and possible mood in one of my feeders while feeding. Could she have eaten the food?

To answer your question about mold, I don't think eating it is the problem. Although it wouldn't be really good for them. Usually it's breathing mold that can cause respiratory problems. It's hard telling what the problem is with your hen. You might feel her abdomen to see if it feels hard. And look at her vent to see if there is an egg stuck there. Other than that it's hard telling what is wrong.

I live in South Africa and in the area that I live our temperature seldom drops below 3 degrees. I'm not counting chill factor when it's windy, but my chickens sleep in a tree by choice! Come rain or shine, they insist on roosting in the tree. Perhaps put it in a warmer area and watch it.
