This year I switched property insurances and this year I bought 6 chickens and bought a bee hive.rhey sent an inspecty my front yard is perfect I walked the inspector to the backyard and explained I had fenced in the backyard chicken wire to get to back yard we have to go though garage. I said we do have to be careful there are bees.anyway I get letter insurance cancelled over peeling paint, hanging tree what and a full gutter really and debris in the yard he must be referring to chickens and bees, it would not be canceled otherwise I think. No point of getting new insurances bees will get a cancellation upset

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Perhaps if you address the specific items mentioned in the cancelation letter and ask for a re-inspection, it will be reinstated.
The letter did not mention chickens and honey bees as the reason for cancellation. Generally, insurance companies are not shy about stating why they are cancelling a policy because a specific animal is in residence there. There are many dog breeds that an insurance policy will not cover as there are statistics that show a high percentage of them have bite related issues.
Chickens and honey bees are not likely to be listed as dangerous.

I could see the bees as being an excellent reason to cancel the insurance. There are a goodly number of people who are deathly allergic to bees, and with such a high concentration of them in a single backyard, it makes the possibility of being stung many, many times more likely than a dog bite.

Good information to post.
I did a little research and it seems there are a large number of insurance companies that will not insure people with bee hives. Luckily, I don't have bee hives and probably never will.
When we bought our place, we had to use a firm that does farm insurance before the bank would give us a loan. But farm insurance only covers the "value" of a place, not the replacement value. If our house would have burned down, there was no way we could have rebuilt a house of the same size with the money we would have got from the insurance company.

Maybe look at other insurance agencies, and consider what kind of coverage you are looking for? It would also depend on where you’re located, and what is permitted in your area. It is never a good idea to point out a “risk” in a negative manner to these people, I’m not saying to lie or conceal your bees... but don’t directly say “we have to be careful here because there are bees”... it’s like saying “this is my dog Fred” instead of saying “this is my rescued pit bull from a dogfighting ring who is scared of sudden noises, but has never bit or attacked anyone, Fred”
