chickens and cold

hope so. they have a nice coop, a run with a henhouse in it but the hen house has a wire roof with a slanted rain roof above it and it keeps out wet but not cold so much? I have 6 girls but they hang out in 2 groups, one of 4 and the other of 2, i wish they would all just keep eachother warm.

If they roost in one end, you could cover just the wire over that end and leave the rest open. That would keep air from drafting through the roost area. It would still allow ventilation through the rest of the roof area. You could uncover it in the spring. What other ventilation openings do you have open during the day or at night?

Paranoia is when you move your chickens into the garage into a puppy pen and set up a space heater in a corner. Paranoia is when you move them out of the garage and move them into their own fully inclosed 4x8 run with attached insulated dog house. Its sort of like when you bring your new baby home and for the first 6 mo's you never take your eyes off them. But, by the time you have your 3rd kid. They could streak through the house naked with knives in their hands and you dont blink.
Our chickens are much happier now that we have relaxed a lot.
Seems to me like we all go there from time to time.

10 below this last week, chickens did fine. My 2x4 roosting board is carpeted so there feet stay warmer. It's going to be a long winter, if you have a good coop, they will be just fine.
