Hello, we did things a little backwards and got ducklings first. In the spring, we'd like to get chickens, we're looking at brahma pullets specifically. We have a very spacious yard in which they could potentially co-exist with ducks. 150' x 150' of fencing, but we would plan on getting them their own separate housing for nighttime. We are wondering if we have to worry about our drake being a problem for the chickens when they're old enough to join them outside?

We have Khaki Campbells, they're about 4lbs, and the male to female ratio is 1:3, so the drake already has his hands full. He's also a tad bit lame and no longer waddles as fast as the girls, can't catch bugs, and even struggles to get into the pool sometimes. I don't really think he's capable of any sexual violence, especially since standard brahmas are about 2.5 - 3x bigger than him, but I wanted some other opinions.

Conversely, I don't want the brahmas to bully the ducks. I hear they're gentle giants, but just in case I wanna put that out there too.

Generally drake ducks are only a problem with chickens when they are raised together or there's no duck hens, so you should be fine that way.

My ducks and chickens occasionally goose each other but generally get along. The ducks will dirty up the waterers, and make wet messes so strategically placed water is important.

The issue with a drake and female chickens is that the sexual anatomy of a duck is very, VERY different than that of a chicken. Chickens are not designed for "penetration". So, such treatment can kill a female chicken. While a drake may have his own harem of gals of his own species, there could be some dominance breeding of the chickens. It all depends on the nature of the beast in question.

Separate housing will help...Free range together if possible?...Some Ducks, such as mine...Hate Chickens...I have mesh fence separating mine as they free range...I have Brahma and Orpington Chickens...My Calls really chase the Chickens....
