thanks. well, people in towns here have pets (my daughter has a beautiful cat), but the animals and birds raised in the villages have a certain purpose: they feed us, they protect us ((the dogs) or help us as they can (the cat has to hunt mouses). i belong to both these environments, town and village, and i understand both mentalities.

Agree completely. Love the well care, humane dispatch, and two families fed for a year.

But does this thread belong in this category? Where most of the folks here think of their chickens as 'pets'?

As a 'newbie', I must admit that 'dressed birds' would mean they were in costume.

Sorry, still agree to disagree that this belongs here.

i said that i dont mind if the topic is moved from here, but i must say that "dressed birds" it is your expression, not mine. for a while, i was confused too

Not everyone in our culture is that sensitive, there are plenty of country folk on here. Some of us still treat livestock like livestock. The grocery-store-generation is sensitive, they've never had to survive, everything is handed to them or on a shelf.

yeah, yeah, yeah, this is what i mean: livestock is livestock. i couldn't say it better. as for the new generation, they've never had to survive, until now.

i promised a recipe for stuffed cabbage rolls. anyone interested? maybe a picture would get your attention

Mmmm.... I want the recipe!!! And I saw nothing wrong with your pics... you raised them well and as someone else said you dispatched them humanely and they fed your family. Not like you did pics of the killing...

I'm from Mexico and my mom and her side of the family are actually fro ma very small rural town in Jalisco. My grandparents used to raise chickens and pigs for their own consumption, and my mom learned to process poultry. I grew up in the city and I'm a huge sucker for animals, and while I wish I could dare to raise my own livestock for my personal use, I can't help but give the animals under my care a name, and once they have a name, I can't bring myself to dispatch them XD.

That doesn't make me less fond of meat, and I've even given my pet chickens some leftover chicken because they are hardcore like that! *swings ax and plays some death metal music*
