Chickens And Ducks.....HELP

hi i am new on here and i have a dilema...

...through my school i am getting and hatching a chicken egg there as part of science my brother and my friend are aswell but my brother also wants to do a duck egg
so my question and i have cats around where i live and also a relativly small backyard how much space would i need to keep 3 chickens and possibly 1 or 2 ducks?
and any tips on making my own coop that saves space since i only have a small area but will be big enough for the birds?( two story one maybe??)
i dont know what breed they are cause they are through my school but i think they may be a small-medium bird
WHAT DO I DO i want to keep them i dont want to give them away

p.s i will be getting the egg in posably a week

You need 4 sq feet per bird, and if you can't let your birds free range then you need to build a little run like 10x15

I don't know anything about ducks though.

what can make a diffrence is what type of chickens are these are they the little chickens (bantams) the regular (standard) size or are the giants (jersey giants) this will help alot with figuring out space
