I have two pekin ducks in my flock and I was surprised to find their first eggs last week. What was truly surprising though was where I found them. While collecting chicken eggs from the nesting boxes I kept finding a big jumbo egg among them. I have three young hens that I knew would be just starting so I was a little worried for whatever poor soul was popping this bad boy out daily. It was only after I found the fourth one I started to suspect the ducks. Mind you its a skinny, but sturdy ramp to get up into the coop. I just can't believe my very hefty pekin girls were managing. With the false spring I took the time to clean all the houses including the duck's and moved their house closer to the chickens. I've since found two jumbo eggs in their house now.
I feel a lot better about the idea of them not trying to scale the ramp or potentially crushing the chicken eggs. Anyone else with mixed flocks find their birds communally laying together?
