Its coming that time of year that fleas and ticks become a problem with cats and dogs. I was wondering if fleas and ticks can be a problem for Chickens also? And if so what do you treat chickens with for them?

I think the fleas can infest chickens. I keep a box of wood ash in the run for a dust bath and I haven't had any problems with any bugs yet

I read on here alot about people using DE for insects.

I've only heard of chickens getting mites and lice. And I've read that chiggers can/will bite them as well. Our area is heavy in fleas (or it was last year), so I sure hope they're not susceptable.

Mine are always looking for a good place to take a dust bath. I had forgotten that's how they take care of most of their bug problems.

Most people here in SW Mo turn their chickens into their yards once to twice a week so that the chickens will eat the ticks. I've never seen a flea on chickens yet. The duswt baths usually takes care of that.
