Chickens and flower beds

I haven't planted flowers for several years because of my free rangers. Mine no longer free range because we have so many foxes around. I am looking forward to splashes of color in the yard again that don't move around and smell good!

what about making a "coop" for your flower bed ? make of lightweight material (PVC flexible pipe, with chicken-wire overlay ? maybe hinge it so you could flip it open when you are around, fasten it down when unattended and chickens are freeranging ?

could also keep larger wild birds out, possibly some of the other "nibblers" like deer or even coons ...

maybe decorate it in some way to make it look deliberate ?

I think also of the "teepees" that some use to train beans, etc; could almost look like garden sculpture ?

well i guess i am not alone in trying to figure out to have the best of both worlds with fresh flowers and fresh eggs.
I am planning on building very large flower boxes that will be raised up off the ground and around the flowers after they are planted i am going run some chicken wire with little wooden stakes to hold it in place - under the windows around the house i am going to put up some smaller flower boxes - to high for the chickens to get at - my chickens dont really free range like everyones elses but i am going to fence in my front yard and allow them to wonder in the front yard to give them more spaces to look for bugs and walk around - they have a large run but this way they get " out " and feel like they are free ranging without leaving the safty of a fenced in yard. once i get the boxes built and in place i will take pictures and let you all know if they are working or not lol

I have had this problem as well and was going to ask for help, but it looks impossible to have both. I guess I will have to put up a run for the chickens, 'm tired of raking the mulch back all the time!!!!!
