Chickens and Goats ???

**cough** hate to say it, but goat meat is yummy. >.... Please don't flame me, and I know this is not an option for everyone!

I can butcher chickens and hogs, but goats have always been more personal for me, so they must go away, and come back wrapped and ready for the freezer. Male kids are just NOT that useful to have around, and there are too many around to usually even give away for pets, but they are a good source for meat. If you breed goats so you can get milk, but don't want to feed, raise or butcher the wethers, advertise them in Craigs List, and many people appreciate them. Also, if you know of any meat markets or butchers that carry halal products, they will be appreciated by the customers there. I love my animals, but there is a practical side to things too.

Thanks for all the advise so far. What is the danger for the goat to eat chicken feed?

I'm not sure if the feed danger, but especially depending on the size of your goat, Hawks are also a predator and have been known to fly away with goats! I'm trying desperately to get Maremma's, two as they work better in pairs, but I do not have the money at this time. But they can guard both your chickens and goats, as I COMPLETELY agree that you should purchase a second goat. They like to play and cuddle with another goat at night (it's adorable!)
