That's one of the fun things about raising poultry, there's always something new to learn.

Thanks for joining us!

I just found one of my guineas dead with just his head missing. There was a struggle cause there were lots of feathers in one spot near his body. What predator would kill them and just take the head.

Hello there, and my warmest welcome to Backyard Chickens! I am so glad you decided to join the community and I do hope you will make yourself at home here! :frow

I have heard that mink and owls take heads. I have found many a baby rabbit dead in the woods with the head missing.

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Sorry you lost a bird to predators. I think Owls only attack after dusk. If it was earlier in the day, something else probably got him. You can also post on the "predator threads," where they may have advice on how to prevent another attack.
