chickens and mud

my chickens run is so muddy that they are having a field day in it. they have it kicked up along the garage wall. and in another spot they have a hole almost a foot deep. they must be finding bugs and worms

I hear you. We humans hate it a lot more than they do. Other than keeping their coop bedding dry, I don't really worry about the rain and/or mud.
 
And then there are my chickens...they hate the mud! Right now is mud season and they are refusing to come out of their house because it means they have to walk through the mud. Spoiled little biddy birds!
 
...and my chickens love to make mud in their waterer by dropping sand and dirt in it, then trying to fish it out with their beaks. I empty and refill their waterer several times a day, only to find it muddy the next time I walk by. It gets particularly muddy in the evening just before they go to roost. Crazy chickens

Chickens are like kids in that there both attracted to mud.
