Chickens and rubdowns

Hi,

We have two Barred Rock hens that are almost seven months old and have been giving eggs for the past couple months. Sometimes when we approach them, they will squat down and my boyfriend started to give them rubdowns. They sound as if they are enjoying it immensely and when he stops, they fluff up, shake, and hop away. Is there a particular reason as to why they do this? It's hilarious to watch but sometimes their vents get really big and one of them has squirted out a liquid a few times. Sorry to be disgusting but it's something we've wondered about.

They do that when they are submissive the rooster and he usually proceeds to mate witth them.
