Chickens and snowstorms

How much snow cover should one leave in the run? We just had close to twenty inches up here in Northern New Brunswick, Canada. Do any of you throw hay/straw and any other food source in the run to encourage them to explore the space? In terms of wind I would agree about the cold winter winds. It's not on their favourite list.

I'm in Southern On, but when we got hit, we actually snow blowed the run lol that way they didn't have to walk/stand on it... i don't think i'd want to toss bedding onto that, when it melted it would make one hot mess imo

I hope everyone survived the storm ok, here in mid-Missouri we had thunder snow, pretty neat if you're warm inside the house. I rarely close up my chickens during the day unless we have a day like we had today. The sleet was so bad we called it an inside day. Don't feel bad for those spoiled chickens though, they had room service several times throughout the day to refresh the water containers, give them their daily salad and then a freshly baked cornbread, served warm, no butter. I did get a couple egg tip, life is good.
