I was in the totality zone. It didn't get pitch black out (was kind of hoping) but it got as dark as like an hour after sunset. My girls didn't go to roost, the temperature dropped a few degrees, I saw Venus in the sky and some crickets chirped. But for me, was the fact that I got to see this in my lifetime! When the next coast to coast US eclipse comes again, I will be 106 so I doubt if I'll be alive to experience such an historical event!
Well, there's 2024, from Mexico to Maine and path will be much closer to me.

We live in MT, drove to Idaho to be in the path of totality. The eclipse was spectacular.
Plans are afoot for 2024 <G>. There are telescopes and amateur astronomers in this household. As for critters at home, all did well. It was 98% here, the chickens got quiet, the dogs continued their napping. This critter sitter did not worry.

That's cool! I have a couple of siblings that live in Ohio. If I want to see it again I could go up there. It's only about an 8 - 9 hour drive but then there's the age factor, in 7 years I'll be 71 so it depends on how I feel about it then, lol.

I was in the 90% path, I ran outside (I was at work) and looked when it was at peak... just in time for it to go behind a big black storm cloud.... It was DARK outside though, like a thunderstorm but about 2 times as dark. The lighting was really neat.

It got pretty pitch black here, was weird the sky was still blue and bright but you couldn't see your hand in front of you face. All I could hear was bugs, a couple confused clucks, the Mister, and the neighbors they looked like turkeys all looking up at the sky. The chickens tried to make it to the coop poor things didn't make it. :)
