Chickens and the roost.....

Those crazy chickens. So I went out to put them to bed and I found half of them on the roosts.

I guess all I had to do was ask and they would listen.

Some of it has to do with age, some confidence, and some ability.

When mine were just a couple weeks old they had a "roost" a couple inches off the floor and they fought for the "best" spots. When they got a real coop at about 8-10 weeks I put two roosts about 3 feet off the ground and they wouldn't use it. So, I gave them a ramp and about half used it. Now at 18 weeks they all sleep on the roosts (three inch stripped branches I mounted) and don't need a ramp at all. They just hop and flap and there they are happy as could be.

Give em a ramp and they may get used to the idea, then just wait. They'll use it in time
