I have 2 heritage bronze turkeys that I am keeping with my chickens..the problem is..the chickens eat the turkeys scratch and are not getting enough calcium. I have oyster shells for them..but their eggs seem to be a bit weaker. My question...does anyone know how I could feed the turkeys without the chickens getting it?? I thought about hanging a bucket up higher so just the turkeys could reach it..but I know the chickens will just jump up there and help themselves! Also should I be feeding them some specific turkey feed..ie..grower?? I think they are around 7 months old..the turkeys that is..they do eat some of the chickens food too. Oh yeah..they are both toms.
Thanks!

Separate them if possible....I heard not good to have together anyways.....I know people do but I was told that their poohs carry different diseases that the others can get. Mine are separate. I feed the chickens and turkeys the same thing (all purpose poultry feed) also give fruits veggies to both as treats they love any kind of bread, crackers. I also give them on a regular basis alfalfa, either scratch or cracked corn.....the turkeys absolutely love the alfalfa. I believe they both need greens for the vitamins someone else will say for sure.

Hope this helps....good luck!

Right now I cant seperate them..I know about Blackhead. I give them treats..they love bananas and grapes..they have to be quick to get them before the chickens do!!. I bought some alfalfa cubes..broke them up and added some water to moisten it..but no takers...so now the horses get it. There is some new grass coming up..I dont think it has a chance against them though!
Thanks for your help! If the horses go soon...back to my sisters...then I can make a seperate stall into a coop for them...but in the meantime....
Thanks!
