Chickens are MUCH tougher than I thought!! UPDATE

That's what I was going to suggest...

HA!!! Success! My husband was out doing some work on our pipes that froze (really, it's very cold, and the dumb chicken doesn't even care), and since he was out there, he was able to finally spring my ultra high tech trap and catch her.

She's now happily reunited with the flock, and everything is lovely.

I thought about a net, but just can't bring myself to spend any. more. money. on these ridiculous birds. (my husband still thinks I keep them to save money).

This goes to my point in wondering about the feasibilty of "chicken leashes." I did think it would be quite possible for chickens who find that they like the free range lifestyle, to really get smart and elude attempts at capture! Chicken leashes or...chicken havahart traps?

Glad you caught her! Maybe instead of a net, an old bedsheet might work. Just throw it over her and then as she bumbles around under it, pack her up to go back home!

On Survivor Somoa they caught the renegade bird with a large net and food under it.
I would screen off her access to the porch and see if you can't get her at night!

I have also used a long handled fish net a couple of times to chase down a chicken or two when they refuse to return to their coop and run. Now when they see the net coming most of them run into the run on their own! I am able to lure most of them into the run with scratch but there is always a couple that won't cooperate (White leghorn, brown leghorn, and 2 Australorps).

If I had that happen, I would clean and inspect every inch of my coop to see what made them do that. Could be a snake decided to winter there ?
