CHICKENS ARE NOT ROOSTING

My five week Olds were sleeping on the ground bedding when I first put them in the outside coop and run. Its a wired, roofed run with a raised roost and poop board. They were waiting to late to move up to the roost and could not see in the dark. They played on the roost in the day.
I put a light in and they got up on the roost no problem. Then they were playing around all night up and down. It took the night light away after five or six days. I had to put a night light back in when they started laying eggs at Christmas. It was still dark at 6:45am and she couldn't see to get off the roost to find the nest. Chickens are afraid to try anything unless treats are involved.
Are you roost bars wide enough? Chickens are not perching birds like song birds. They rest their body on the perch and walk flat footed.
Use 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 wide roost bars. Get some raises and get them up on the roost bars with the treats during the day.
