Chickens as a business?

When Contemplating any business always try to keep in mind that the pressures of making money can take the fun out of anything.

It's been my philosophy that anything I do for fun will never be my job. I LOVE to cook and have friends who tell me on a regular basis that I should open a restaurant. I just tell them I look at it this way. The best way to suck the fun out of anything is turn it into a business. You want proof?? Ask yourself how many prostitutes go home at night and say "WOW I live my job!!"

If you're doing it for fun then maybe you can break financially, have fresh eggs/chickens for your family and enjoy your flock. If you want to do it as a business get ready to run with the big dogs or stay on the porch.

Buy oyster shells in bulk, I just paid $10.79 for a 50 lb bag, where at another store they only sell 5 lb bags for $5.79.

Have a large garden, all the garden scraps will really cut down on the feed bill.

You could try getting a rooster and selling fertile eggs at a premium if peeps are looking for hatching eggs.

All I can come up with running on only 1 cup of coffee
