Chickens attacked

I had a opossum get into my coop and kill one of my roosters. I beat him with several things: cement block, 2x4, 3lbs hammer, and then finally the shovel I scooped him out with - just for good measure. Now it's hard for me to be sure what traumatized my remaining birds more, me or the opossum, but they didn't sleep in their coop for months after that. I eventually had to block them off inside the coop for a week before they'd start roosting there in their own. Chickens seem to have a decent memory when it comes to life threatening events....

yes, they do, I guess as long as they were not avoiding you outside or when your in the coop that it wasn't you that traumatized them. My guess would be the rooster kill
