Hello, I have had chickens for years... and at a this time I only have 3 adults, same age...raised together, about 2 years old. Today one of my gals is attacking one of the others. No sickness that I know of, she is laying and seems fine...coop is large enough, plenty of food and water, lots of space...but the mean one is drawing blood. She even attacked the other one while in yard..I know that when they free range they are usually ok...So what do you think ? any ideas? I have the evil one separated at this time..and will keep her away for a while...lucky that I have two coops. Not sure if this will help, but any advise is welcome. thank you

You did the right thing by separating the attacker from the other hens. Keep her separated for a couple of weeks. It should knock her down in the packing order when you return her with the others. Good luck.
thank you. I was going to keep her seperted for a week, but I will do 2 weeks. I have babies, but they wont go out for a while still. I am concerned that she will attack them also. If she doesn't stop I will have to get rid of her.

Not necessarily. You can always put chicken blinders/peepers on her. They work.

Is there any illness in the one attacking? I had had an aggressive hen that would get very moody and attack others just so they would stay away when feeling bad. I would also check that and not just the one she was attacking. Or is she broody. I have a mean broody also

No illness. No brooding going on. I just dont know what has happened. There is only three of them. they all seem fine this morning, but i am still keeping the evil one away from the other two.
