Chickens blowing out their whole rear end ~warning pic

Sorry for your losses, it sounds a horrible way to find them. Just thought I would share this in case it might help.... a week ago I had been away for a couple of hours so checked my coops on my return. One of my chickens was in a bad way-an egg had broken inside her, was dripping from her, and the others in that pen (10 others) were proceeding to eat her vent area. Blood was actually squirting from her. Luckily I seem to have gotten to her just in time as she was returned to her pen (sectioned off) the day before yesterday and actually laid yesterday and today. Part of her vent is missing from the attack but she is recovering very well. I imagine if I had been gone much longer i could have found what you did.

Are the chickens are overweight with high blood pressure, this can cause fluid buildup in belly causing hen to have problems pushing out eggs causing bulge/prolapse problems and poopy butt. If they have a bulge/prolapse other chickens will pick at it, killing it.
