I had an issues with my flock. I bought a couple of chickens (4) from the feed store as adults. This is something I will never do again! 1 was a rooster and returned. Only 1 was truly Ok. The blue Ameraucana I got was pretty sick. Runny nose and eyes and wheezing, the whole bit. I had her isolated in the house and was treating her. There were a couple of days I was down because I thought I would have to cull her. However, she pulled through and is healthy once again. I put her back with the flock yesterday.
Well, I guess chickens have really short memory because they are pretty mean to her and pushed her away! She has a had a hard time returning to the flock. Then, this morning something weird happen which is the point to the post. I was feeding treats and scratch and everyone was around me. They really weren't letting her eat. Then the Blue Ameraucana took one look at me and jumped onto the hood of my jacket like a pigeon!
I was going to shake her off, but realized that she must have felt really threaten and saw me as safe. I never really thought of chickens as animals that could recognize that. This suprised me! I let her stay there and fed her scratch. What a funny site!
Do any of your birds perch on you? If so, is that an OK sign for bird behavior, or is that weird?
