Chickens close to laying

Hello. My three buff Orpingtons just passed 20 wks old. This is my first time raising chickens and I want to be prepared. Is there anything I should know about nesting boxes, foods, or behaviors that may not be in the books? Thank you!

Know that they know more about laying eggs than any of us do. Set up your nests, add some golf balls... and wait.

Generally I think, 4 weeks after the combs get bright red, 2 weeks after they start to squat. Right about the time you have given up all hope of ever getting an egg.
