I have a mixed flock that consists on a RR rooster, barred rocks, EE, and black sex links. Both barred rocks have died a week in half apart. With both they seemed fine with no fisable damage or injury. Don't know why or how they died. Any ideas? Predators do not seem to the cause.....

How old are they? Did you bring a new bird in? Did you worm them? How'd there corpse look?

They would be a year old in April. The one that died last week looks like she just died. No visible damage. We are out of town and our pet sitter called me tonight that the other barred rock died. When she checked on the chickens this afternoon ( they were in the run and not free ranging) she was fine. She went tonight to lock them up and found her dead. No critters had gotten into the run and no other viable damage. Both showed no other signs of sickness. Bright red combs, eating, hanging out with the flock, laying eggs. Just fine. I added new birds in October. I'm baffled!

Nobody else is showing any symptoms? No fatalities today?

The pet sitter will stop by this morning and we will be home this afternoon. I plan to thoroughly check everyone else out.

Tell them to pick each one up and see if they're skinny or if there's anything else wrong with them

Got home and checked the girls and boy out and everyone is fine. Healthy, happy chickens. Wonder if the two died of sudden chicken death syndrome......

we just had two die this week. One was a chick about 2.5 months old and the other was our bantam that was about 2 yrs old. the chick i suspect had crop issues but the bantam i just found dead in the yard. no sign of trauma or anything. should i be worried about the rest of my flock? is there anything the could be getting into? i just recently bult a compost bin for them to scratch around in but have only been putting greens, leftovers, coffee grounds, etc.... what else could be a possibility?
