Tdub4chiks, this is for future plans. I have yet to inherit my grandfathers farm land (20 beautiful acres ). Nope, my girls now are on layers pellets/scratch. (along with some scraps here and there)

I think it is great that you want to grow your own chicken food/corn.

I have been surprised at how easy growing millet, wheat, kamut (another wheat), hulless oats, and flax is. I tried them all one year in small experimental plots.

I currently am using a seed/grain mix and give layer pellets for treats!

Do what you feel is best! Just corn though - you would definitely want more protein in their diets.
 
ChickensAreSweet, Ahh! Another good link, thankyou! And I would love to grow wheat, but I don't see how I could plant enough to have enough seed to feed the hens.
