Chickens digging big hole

these chickens ended up digging a giant hole. All theee are just sitting in the hole. Never saw this behavior before.

These specific chickens normally are not able to free range because they live most of the time someplace else without a yard.

My ‘free range’ chickens have never done this.

Chickens will do that. They are digging a hole to dust bath in. I have chicken holes all over their outside run, its really funny to watch them work to dig a dust bath hole. Anyway, its completely normal chicken behavior. Just sit back and watch the fun.

I have found that too! Anything new and they are straight in there! I’m not a big gardener myself but the other half likes to put colourful bedding plants down in the spring and summer. After they undid all his work one year and he wasn’t happy I got chicken netting fence to keep them away from the borders and his plants. They were happy at being allowed in the garden still and the other half happy that his plants were safe! Harmony resumed again after that....
