I use blocks and bricks instead of rocks to keep my birds from digging up newly planted stuff. It's what I have an excess of laying around. They can excavate as much as they want but not in the immediate root zone.

This recent stone wall repair and addition used many. Since then we’ve created another retaining wall higher up. DH (pictured) went a little crazy worrying about erosion.

He would want me to explain that siding the garage is the very next project once the coop is done!

We are considering switching to the large river rock mulch to improve this at our place. That will take care of the flower beds but won’t do much for my new veggies!
