I posted before when one of my Yorkies killed a chicken and it has taken a while but my chickens and dogs get along just fine now. Never thought it would happen.
I'm still in the learning phaze of raising chickens and I have a lot to learn.
I got my first egg Aug. 1st. and another one 2 days later.
I was wondering why they were being so friendly letting me pet them. They think I'm a roo
I think another one is getting ready to lay. She didn't want to come out of the pen this morning.
I made the pen from a climbing frame swing set that was in the yard when I moved here. There was 2 swings but only one was hanging there and I was going to remove it but found out the chickens love to swing on them so I hung up the second swing. The have a board on which they can climb up to the second floor and they hang out there early in the morning and at dusk.
My chickens are spoiled. They have the run of the yard all day but mostly they sit under the raspberry bushes where it's cooler. It's been in the 90's for 2 months.
Here is an idea for a great treat especially in this hot weather. I fill a bunt pan (plastic) half full of water and put it in the freezer. When it's frozen i put canned corn on the top and more water and freeze it again.
They have a great time trying to get at the corn and it keeps them cool.
I have very happy chickens.
