Chickens24
:
Hello I'm new to this website and I have the same problem you do. I have or should I say had 22 chickens and two roosters. About three weeks ago one of my chickens got sick, she had a fever and was just laying on the ground, not drinking water or eating. I tried to get her to eat but she refused about an hour later she died. I figured something must've bitten her or something of that nature because she had been fine all day. This week another two chickens and one of my roosters have died, they showed no signs of being ill. In fact when the second chicken died I checked all the animals and they were fine. An hour later I went to go check on them again and the rooster was dead. Im panicking right now because they're dying quickly and there is nothing I feel I can do. I was hoping that maybe since you seem to have had the same problem, you could offer some help or pass on any advice you have gotten.
We need more info to help you... If you have pics that would help too. Answer these questions...
Are these meat birds? What breed?
what conditions are you keeping them in?
Have you changed their food recently (rarely someone will buy a new feed that has gotten mold or excessive salt or something in it)
Could they have gotten into something like rat poison?
do they show any symptoms?
Do they have any marks or changes on the dead ones?
Could there be a predator killing them (weasels or possums or foxes can sneak in small holes)?
Did you change bedding? One kind of wood chips is toxic-- i think it's cedar chips.
Are they swollen? Or breathing hard? etc.
Describe exactly and specifically what is happening to them?
