Last Monday we lost three of our one-year old chickens. Two buff orpingtons and a gold lace wyandotte. It was really hot, 106, and we were gone all day. While we were gone they knocked the two waterers that are in the shade over. They wouldn't go out and get water from the hot one. I assumed that between the heat and the lack of water they just couldn't survive. Another one, an easter egger, was moving like a slow drunk, and holding her wings out. So we fixed some electrolytes and put her in a shady muddy spot and she perked right back up.

This morning I sent my son out to give them fresh water and he found another one, a silver laced wyandotte, dead in the coop. I think that rules out my too hot theory. I don't have any idea a) what is killing them or b) what to do.

Here is what I do know:
1) Only one of the one year olds has been laying and she hasn't laid for two days now.
2) The four that died have had white poo streaks down their backsides. I didn't know until recently that that might be an issue.
3) I check them regularly for lice and mites.
4) When we found the ones that died last week, they had purple waddles and comb. Not sure if that's normal or not.
5) We had 6 one year olds and 4 four month olds. So far the littles seem okay.

What do I do?

I had a 1 year old hen die of a heart attack last month, she wasn't laying, and had large accumulations of fat inside.

I know she wasn't laying as there were no mature ovum inside her, and there was no decrease in eggs after she died.
