Chickens eat Mice!!!

I was cleaning the coop yesterday & came upon a nest of pink little baby mice. The girls grabbed them up & ran around like it was Christmas morning. I didn't know chickens ate meat, but I guess anything is possible.

Silly, of course they eat meat. Bugs are meat. Sort of.

Chickens are omnivores and as you found out and LOVE baby mice!

Wow thats good to know, I might kick the cat out and bring in the chickens. They picked the cotton in the fields around my house yesterday and today I see a mouse first one all year. Yuck, lazy cat just looked at me like, you better do something about that.

OT - I too used to live surrounded by cotton fields (Wilson, NC) and had a mouse come in the house after cotton picking. My male siamese was sitting on my lap when we noticed it. The look he gave me clearly said "I hope you don't expect me to continue to live here with THOSE things."

With the cat I have now no rodent problem. Killer Kitty would kill the dogs if she thought she could drag em up to the porch to eat.

I have a guy I work with that holds on to one of his chickens and has his wife move the hay and then lets the chicken go. FEAST!

Y0u have to be careful if you put out mouse poison, because your chickens will get poisoned if they get a hold of the poisoned mouse!! A friend of mine lost several chickens this way.
