Chickens eat Mice!!!

I can't use poison. I have a boxer dog. Boxers are not very smart & he likes to swallow things to see if he can pass them. So no poison of any kind.

My chickens have played tug-o-war with a grown mouse and I once had to take away a leopard frog from them just to keep them from beating each other up over it.

Mine love 'pinks'. Whenever I find a nest in the feed room I toss them in the runs... They also like small snakes but the all time favorite around here is scratching through the manure piles for Dung Beetles.... don't cha' know?

BTW Stacey you got Turkey poults yet???

Yeah, was a shocker my first time too. The one that really got me was when a tiny bird (maybe a finch) flew into a window and fell down. The hens grabbed it and were fighting over it like mad... BLAH

I finally got it away from them.

One time our cat caught a mouse in the hay shed and our RIR Dasiy went and took it from the cat. Our cat was so mad she was walking around growling. My son thought that was great so when we take down hay bales Daisy sits in the shed and waits. Our chickens are better than any cat we have ever had

Uh oh, will bantams eat mice, too? We're in the process of moving and saw a mouse at the new place today. It wasn't running away, just sort of running in circles in the driveway. I thought it had probably been poisoned and before I could grab something to put it in, it fell over dead. I'm guessing it came from the neighbor's. Should I be worried about our chickens when we get them?

OT - I too used to live surrounded by cotton fields (Wilson, NC) and had a mouse come in the house after cotton picking. My male siamese was sitting on my lap when we noticed it. The look he gave me clearly said "I hope you don't expect me to continue to live here with THOSE things."

With the cat I have now no rodent problem. Killer Kitty would kill the dogs if she thought she could drag em up to the porch to eat.

I had one run out from behind a really loud microwave a friend had given me. My siamese and tortoise-shell cats were sitting behind me on the floor, saw the mouse, and looked at me like 'what the heck was THAT???!!!'
After finding lord knows how many mice in the apartment, I finally put poison out. I figured if they weren't gonna mess with them live, they wouldn't with them dead! And they didn't!

But I remember one day being at my brother's house and hearing his chickens raising quite a fuss. I looked in to see one with something in its mouth. Turns out it was a mouse, and the chickens were fighting over it!! Makes you wonder why anyone would eat them!!

I had NO idea chickens eat mice! We have mice near the coop and run, but never "in" it. The dogs chase the mice and they run up to the top of the wire over the run and scurry off. I have been worrying about the mice getting into the chicken's food or something...guess its a moot point now. I am glad we have never put out poison! That would have been devastating!

Our cat likes mice, of course, however, he likes to carry them in his mouth like kittens and tries to bring them in the house to play with them until they die. He likes to bring in live lizards too. I'd rather he left them outside. One evening, he was at the back door wanting in with his new found "toy" in his mouth. He dropped the live mouse and put a paw on it to hold it, so he could meow at me (I was standing there, but was NOT gonna let that mouse in with him!).

I knew that they would eat bugs, worms, slugs and possible some snakes, but never imagined they would eat mice.

I have a mouse problem in the house:barnie and though two of my six MinPins try their best to catch them, these guys must be on something because they zoom away.

They even steal the bait from the traps without tripping them!

A friend suggested putting out some cola for them to drink, said that mice can't burp, so they will die from indigestion.
