They must think it tastes better, but I need a solution. They have chicken food, all Nutrena. I can't give them an all-treat diet.

Can you just feed your cat when the chickens are in the coop?

ha! i put a cat in my coop about a week ago to catch mice and its working great but my chickens have developed a great love of his cat food to the point of whooping him to get it. lol

Our ladies were late to start laying and the feed store said they need more protein in addition to the laying feed. They suggested dry cat food. They went nuts over the cat foot. They preferred it over chicken feed. I stopped the cat food just because it did not seem right for them to be eating it ALL THE TIME versus eating their feed.

Anyway, yes, ours love cat food too. I wonder if they can eat too much of it thought?

i have never gave it to my chickens i save that for me !! all they need is their regular food and some treats in winter dont hurt.lol BOSS black oil sunflower seeds

Put the cat food up on a stack of hay. Most chickens can't fly over 4 feet. Also feed the cat at night after the chickens have gone to bed. Barn cats just need a handful or two of food at a time. Otherwise they don't have much need to hunt.
