I think I like that idea a lot better. When they eat the eggs at least they clean up everything, with the booby trapped eggs they would just leave a mess.
As for the member who asked about broody hens, might I suggest making the nesting boxes removable? That way if you get a Broody hen you can change out the roll-away for a standard nest when she gets off briefly to eat or poop.
