chickens eating feathers?

my chickens been pecking each other and eating the feathers has anyone ever had this problem? someone told me that they need more protean is this correct?
 
yes-- they need more protein. You can give them meat scraps, dry cat food, a higher protein feed etc.

well i went to the feed store and they told me it wasn't a lack of protein. but i am going to do what everyone say to do give the more! thank you
 
The only other thing I can think of is maybe they are getting bored and pecking at each other. Do they have space to roam around? Do you keep a light on them all night? If they seem to be deliberately pulling out feathers to eat them, that is a lack of protein.
