You must break this habit ASAP. Wooden eggs are good. You can also try golf balls.

Thanks for all the advise. I hung curtains in the coop to darken it up in there and hung fabric over half of each of the boxes and threw in a couple of golf balls. They are still laying all over the place (boxes, floor, even in the pen) but they aren't eating them any more.

Maybe they appreciated all the attention.
