My chicken just started laying eggs the first egg she laid was normal for the first egg. But the second egg she laid had a weaker shell than the first is this normal or not? Also can u eat the first egg or should u wait till they lay better or bigger eggs?

Congratulations on getting some eggs!

Yep, it is normal for new to laying hens to produce some slightly less than normal eggs, just while they get their internal plumbing into order and into the swing of things.

Do you provide some additional calcium [oyster shell]? I keep a separate container of oyster shell, away from the food. The girls are good at judging when their calcium needs a top up and will peck at the shell if they need it.

Yep, you can eat their first eggs .. after you have taken a picture of course, it is a special occasion
