thanks Bruce for the offer,I appreciate it ,but I'll keep looking for the ingredients- don't want to put u too any trouble,-yeah we got good opals ,mostly in Lightning Ridge -in the middle of the country.its so hot there ppl live underground ,if u want an extra room, break out the pick & go at it .cheers Pete

I heard 8 million people dont have electricity tonight. We ate by candle light to comiserate with them, and so the kids would have a tiny idea what was happening. God Bless America tonight and all the crazy chickeners buttoned down and hole'n up.

And this is why I don't heat my coop. Just had to say it...

New to chickening here but we had some as a kid. Sort of flying by the seat of our pants with these. I'm back after the p/c crashed and was down a couple of weeks I have some chicken news. Got current on reading posts here.

We went to the feed store anniversary event mostly for the $5.00 feed coupon from Purina I needed some flock raiser as I was not able to find it elsewhere. Have poltry food for the flock now we can have turkeys!

This weekend a couple of young roos going at it and one got all bloodied up. The breeder said she
would buy them back if they turned out not to be hens so I gave her a call and she picked them up. I see that one left behind has an eye swollen shut ~sigh~ so well be keeping an eye on this one. [It was fine the next day.] Saw it crawling out from a hiding place so it's a smart bird I hope any way. I let 'em out in the afternoon and they run across the yard and flap wings for exercise hubby says. I will be happy to get 2-3 good hens out of this batch of six.

When I open the gate most of them run out in a big hurry, if any straggle behind I just shoo 'em out with a rake or whatever that's if it's raining they can take cover under the deck. We have hawks here so the birds have learned where the trees for cover are and part of the reason they run across the lawn as it's an open space.

For a feeder we have a wooden kiddie tool box with roped tied on it hanging to hold the feed. I put some on the ground as well for them to scratch in. I would put in a photo but my p/c is not compatible with the camera phone at the moment.

[FONT=verdana,
helvetica, sans-serif]I made some homemade corn crumbles as I did not have any flock grower. I put pumpkin, cornmeal, and oats plus reject cereal flakes that family did not want mixed it up and baked like corn bread. Realize that I probably do not even need to bake it so will try that next time. [I put some wild birdseed in with some scratch too.]

We are not getting any eggs no surprise as we are not putting light out for the shorter days, they are
on bug patrol at the moment. One of the main reasons I got chickens, and to help eat apples that fall in the back yard.

One of the Americana's is through the worst of her molt and seems to be chipper happily running around hunting and pecking like chickens do. These am. [don't know the abbreviation for Americana], BR and the game bird cross with copper french Morans all seem to be great at foraging they had learned that before they arrived here.

The birds love old movie popcorn so when we go to the show I grab a bag for the chickens out of the trash if some one
leaves a fuller one on top so I don't have to dig for it! LOL!

I put apple cider vinegar in the water after reading about doing that in this thread.

Yes I've had probs. logging in to this site today got on yea!

Oh, no...see, you went and discouraged all the OTs because we are no longer young enough to see that size font. Welcome to the thread, whoever you are and next time..speak up! We can't read you!

So, how about all you fine folks living in cold climates post some good pics of your chickens having fun out in the snow on this thread. I think all the newbies just may need to see that around about this time of year. I've already posted mine of the Gnarly Bunch...now it's your turn, people!
